Delete your ichat account

You can delete your ichat account and its data at any time. Deletion is immediate, permanent, and never delayed or rate-limited.
The fastest way: delete it in the app
- Open ichat and sign in.
- Open the overflow menu (⋮) on the reply screen.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm. The action cannot be undone.
The app deletes your server-side account first, and only wipes the on-device history once the server confirms. If anything fails, nothing is deleted and you keep your data.
What gets deleted

What is briefly retained, and why
When you delete an account we write one short-lived record containing:
- a one-way HMAC-SHA256 hash of your sign-in identifier — not reversible, and not linkable back to you without our server key
- that day’s usage count
- the time of deletion
It exists solely to stop the daily free allowance from being reset by deleting and re-creating an account. It is deleted within 48 hours. Nothing else survives deletion.

Please note one honest limitation: we cannot look up an account from an email address, because we never store your email address. All we hold is the pseudonymous identifier that Apple or Google gives us at sign-in. That means we cannot verify by email alone that an account is yours, and we will not delete an account on an unverified request — doing so would let anyone delete someone else’s data.
If you have lost access to your device but can still sign in with the same Apple or Google account, installing ichat on another device and using the in-app Delete account option is the quickest route. If you have lost access to the Apple or Google account itself, write to us and we will work out what verification is possible.
Subscriptions
Deleting your ichat account does not cancel a paid subscription. Apple and Google own that billing relationship, so cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancel there first if you no longer want to be charged.
